Jane Reichle
Mermaid Cowgirl
Brand new hand-embroidery art
Jane has been working out lots of new ideas and designs in her latest work. She says she’s become fixated on the idea of western mermaids, designs within designs, and small couples portraits.
March 1 - 29
Opening reception
Saturday, March 1
1 - 4 pm
Jane Reichle (b. 1998, Bryan, TX) is a self-taught embroidery and textile artist based in Austin, Texas. In 2022, Reichle exploded onto the scene and made waves in the industry after a series of sold-out gallery exhibitions and a prominent feature in Texas Monthly. Each of her pieces is a one-of-a-kind gem. She tells a resonant story— her concepts and narratives are then transferred onto fabric through the intricate art of hand-stitching. Reichle’s delicate handwork is imbued with a sense of heartfelt reflection and originality.
Reichle draws inspiration from an eclectic blend of sources, including the legendary Nudie Cohen and the bespoke western wear fashion scene. Furthermore, she delves into the world of old-school American tattoos for additional inspiration and counts her eccentric Austin-based friends as a wellspring of creative energy. She explores time and memory in her work, creating a nostalgic yet contemporary reflection of Texan life. Her embroidery is a testament to her integrity, attention to detail, and the love she pours into each piece.

AND!
January 13, 2025
We're holding Tim Kerr's art show over from December, so it seems like a good excuse to look a little more closely at his work. I asked Tim to say something about 3 of his paintings:
Love Supreme
Ever since I heard John Coltrane, he has been a constant in my life. I have his name tattooed on my wrist. I honestly feel that he was sent here with a message of healing through his music. Alice Coltrane was his wife and made just as powerful a message through her music as well.
Jeff Ho & Craig Stecyk III
If I hadn't wanted to surf in the early 60s, I would have never skated. If I had never skated, Big Boys, the first band I was in, would have never happened. Jeff Ho and Stecyk are surfers and were two of the instigators of what would become DogTown. Watch the doc Dogtown And Z Boys.
Sit Down To Stand Up
Rosa Parks has been quoted as saying "I was one of many" and the women on this painting were just a few of the ones that came before her. They all refused to give up their seat to make a stand. What that means to me is that we are all making history. That there is so much more around us that we may never know about but I for one am always curious. There are a lot more unsung folks that we should be celebrating.
January 11, 2025
Every year, starting in 1996, coinciding with but not affiliated with SXSW, we've had free parties featuring live music. Through 2019 the parties were in the parking lot behind our building. We moved off of S Congress at the end of 2019.
2020, the year of the plague, the Waco Brothers live streamed their version of our party.
Starting in 2021, we've had a big blowout Friday party at ABGB and a smaller, more intimate Saturday party in the gallery.
Here's a list, mostly accurate, of each year's lineups, up through this year, 2025.
